It is now revealed that certain information exposed earlier are incorrect according to ongoing investigations conducted in related to the millionaire businesswoman who had murdered her illegal husband on a contract of Rs. 15 lakhs because he had been pestering her for money.
What was revealed by the media was that she had murdered an inspector of police whom she associated as her illicit husband. But in reality he was her second husband and they had entered into a legal marriage and has had one child from the marriage. This information was given by the brother of deceased Rohan Thusitha Kumarasingha, Danushka Kumarasingha.
'Himali Karunaratna was married earlier. She had 3 children. My elder brother has 1 child. Now all those children are in Colombo. We never thought that my brother would face such a crime. My brother had come home sensing something fishy. It was during that time some people came and took him away. I don't know that story that he was taken away from a saloon. I can't still think why my brother was murdered.
When our brother disappeared, I spoke to Himali akka and asked her about it. She said hat she also was searching for him and that she spoke about it to the IGP over the phone. At that moment I felt some suspicion over Himali akka. Investigations on this matter was conducted by Talangama police. It was they who publicized this issue as an illicit relationship between the two of them. They may have done so,because if they had identified the two of them as a legally married couple, legal problems may have turned out to be serious.
I had informed Talangama police on a number of occasions that the two of them were married; but they turned a deaf ear on what I said, on purpose.
Even towards the last stages of my brother's death, there were problems between my brother and Himali akka. It was at my father's funeral that Himali akka had struck up a friendship with my brother. They got married on their own consent. But this may have been done because of fear that some secret of Himali had got caught and that it would be revealed from my brother's mouth.
Before his death, the money in his bank account and all the vehicles were transferred to her name. What was said as the reason was that she was constantly receiving letters from the Bribery Commission and that she has to produce information about personal assets. It was after beguiling that way that my brother's assets were transferred in her name".
Dhanushka Kumarasingha produced a copy of the marriage certificate to the media confirming the brother's marriage to the businesswoman. He further mentioned that this millionaire businesswoman has given about Rs. 15 lakhs to build his house and that she had from time to time come to the Kekirawa house too.
It is observed that inspector of police Rohan Thusitha Kumarasingha and T.D. Sharmini Himali Karunaratna had under the permission of additional district registrar of Thimbirigasyaya had entered into marriage on 24th January 2013 at the residence of 153. 5/3, Trillium Residences, Elvitigala Mawatha, Colombo 8 and the marriage has been finalised by M.G. Anoma Priyadarshani of Narahenpita urban area while Bank Manager Weerawardena Ratnayaka Mohan Mahendra of 157, Kawdana Road, Dehiwala and Adhikaram Witharanalage Susil of 679/213 of Godellawaththa Road, Malabe have signed as witnesses according to the marriage certificate produced by Dhanushka.
After the crime was committed, later when the body was recovered at Kitulgala, it was revealed that the OIC of Talangama police including 4 officers had covered up the murder without carrying out the necessary investigations after taking bribes to the value of more than Rs.100,000 after which they have been taken into custody.
Police investigations are underway to find out the reasons why the incident of murder was kept under cover with large sums of money being given to the police officers.
Suspicions of the police was aroused whether Thusitha Kumarasingha was murdered because he was pestering her for money or else he was killed to cover up a secret known to him. This has still not been confirmed by the police.
Himali Karunaratna the millionaire businesswoman who owns hundreds of extensive lands is a resident of Ernest de Silva Mawatha, Colombo. She is the mother of 3 children from an earlier marriage and also has 1 child from the marriage to Rohan. It was during the funeral the funeral of Rohan Thusitha's father's funeral which took place a few year's ago that she had begun to associate him.
Later she had kept an intimate relationship with the deceased. For sometime Rohan had been employed with the police Special Task Force and he had served in the end with Nuwara Eliya police. That was in the year 2011.
He was dismissed from service for not having reported to work. She had bought a house for Rohan at Trillium Residencies at Elvitigala Mawatha, Narahenpita after he had lost his job. She had lived with Rohan there from time to time while spending some time with her children from her earlier marriage, at Ernest de Silva Mawatha in Colombo. The two of them had begotten a child in the year 2012. Subsequently it was in January 2013 that they had decided to get married.
Whatever it is, it is a truth that Rohan who was unemployed had begun to live a luxurious life at the expense of his wife's money. Rohan who lived a luxurious life from the monies given by his wife, it is reported, that he was aware of everything Himali was upto. What was earlier reported from investigations conducted was, since the large sums of money was refused by this millionaire lady; it has ended up in various conflicts. But now it is suspected that the suspicion about the transaction of Himali Karunaratna which still remains a secret would be divulged b Rohan which may have led to the murder. Inquiries in this connection are proceeding.
