Millionaire who killed her paramour ....
bribes Talangama police left and right

The millionaire businesswoman in Colombo was taken into custody about 2 weeks ago on suspicion of murdering her paramour on a contract given to outsiders. It was revealed yesterday (Nov 20) that after the murder had been committed, the dead body was recovered at Kitulgala and even under such circumstances it was revealed that investigations had been hidden by OIC Talangama police and 4 other officers on a bribe of over 10 lakhs taken by them. Subsequently,
they had been taken into custody.

Nimali Karunaratna the millionaire businesswoman who was the owner of hundreds of acres of land is a resident of Ernest de Silva Mawatha in Colombo. This lady who is a mother of 4 children had come to know the deceased RohanThusitha Kumarasingha a few years ago.

Later she had begun a clandestine affair with him. Rohan who had also served at the Special Task Force of the police had been on duty for the last time at Nuwara Eliya police in the year 2011.

He had been issued vacation of post notice as he had not reported to work. After that, he had been dependent on the monies of the secret wife. Rohan who lived in a luxury house in Colombo had lived an equally luxurious life with his illicit wife's money. The lady had felt that Rohan was becoming a headache after associating him for sometime.

Though she had tried to severe connections with him, Rohan had not left any room for it. Since he had been continuously been pestering her for money for his existence, she had kept on refusing to provide him money after which the millionaire businesswoman had entered into arguments with him frequently. It was during this period that she had set up a plan to put an end to his life and it was to her driver that she had given over the responsibility of looking for an organised gang to carry out the murder of Rohan.

The driver had then handed over the contract to an organised gang in Kaduwela area. It was revealed that this gang had made it their occupation to seize vehicles whose owners were evading payments of the lease.

The lady concerned had made a payment of  Rs. 15 lakhs for the contract given to murder Rohan. As arranged, Rohan who had been returning after a hair-cut at a saloon was abducted by the said members of the organised gang, after which they had taken him to Kitulgala area where he was strangled to death with a rope. After the crime, a rock had been tied to his body and made to sink to the bottom of Kelani ganga. However, the body had failed to sink and it was found washed away towards a side of the river. On a ti off the police were able to recover the corpse  in a badly decomposed state on July 28th this year and was handed over to the mortuary of the Kegalle hospital. As nobody had come forward to identify and claim the body, after a period of 3 months it was buried at the Kegalle cemetery.

In the process, this millionaire businesswoman had even lodged an entry at the Talangama police station saying that her illicit husband was missing. A few days after the crime, she had lodged another entry with the police to the effect that she had received information that he was hiding. When investigations were launched in this respect by Talangama police, they had received news that a dead body had been found in Kitulgala. But reports on that incident was covered up on the understanding that no information was forthcoming about the now deceased Rohan.

In the meantime, the brother of Rohan took steps to make a complaint a few days ago to the IGP relief centre saying that Rohan had been mysteriously murdered and that he holds the millionaire businesswoman responsible for the murder.

The CID then went into action and on arresting first the driver of this millionaire businesswoman and was interrogated, he had in fear exposed everything regarding the murder. Though he had been taken into custody by Talangama police on an earlier occasion and was produced in courts, he had been released because of bungling of information willfully carried out by deceitful officers of Talangama police. The driver had revealed information about 2 residents of Kaduwela who had undertaken this contract of murdering Rohan after which the 2 individuals were arrested. The police then proceeded to take into custody the millionaire businesswoman who had given the contract of 15 lakhs.

The driver was further interrogated by CID Colombo in order to get at the reasons of how the past happenings of this murder had been neglected  and on further investigations it was revealed that the OIC of Talangama police Upul Perera, OIC -- Crimes, Inspector of police K.P. Kodituwakku, sergeant Pushpakumara and police constable Navaratna had been involved in threatening the lady and had extracted a sum of over 100 lakhs and ten thousand from this chief suspect for having murdered the latter's illicit husband who himself was a former Inspector of police.

On being taken into custody yesterday and on interrogation it was revealed that the money had been taken by officers of the police in various ways.

On a check made by on the bank account of the suspected OIC, it was revealed that the suspected lady had credited a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs to his account. Another officer who was to retire soon had illegally secured a job as a legal counsellor and the millionaire businesswoman had paid him a monthly salary of Rs. 1 lakh. Another officer had been favoured by being given a shop-space for business purposes in Talangama area, which transaction had been to the tune of over Rs. 30 lakhs. In the same way, she had taken steps to secure a rented house in Talangama area for a monthly rent of 23,000.

During the period when police officers were assisting in getting bail for the driver, 3 police officers were right royally treated by the lady and entertained at a five-star hotel with lodging, food and drinks. It was further revealed that the suspected police officers were even helped from time to time by her with financial aid.
